The Story About a Bachelor Named Johnny
Authors Notes:
Going through The Nursery Rhyme Book, I found a song called “Johnny
Shall Wear a Bonnet”. From further research, I believe it was a song written
long ago in England. The original song is posted below. It is about a boy named
Johnny who is going to the fair with his parents. He gets fully ready and seems
to be well put together. There is another person in the story who is familiar
to Johnny and his family. The only problem is, the person is unsure if there is
love between Johnny and them self. I put
a modern day twist to this song and decided that Johnny would be some what of a
“Bachelor”. He would go on several dates and pick who he wanted to see again….
Although he did find someone special, he receives an ironic end.
Johnny
shall have a new bonnet,
And
Johnny shall go to the fair,
And
Johnny shall have a new ribbon
To tie
up his bonny brown hair.
And why
may not I love Johnny?
And why
may not Johnny love me?
And why
may not I love Johnny?
As well
as another body?
And
here's a leg for a stocking,
And
here is a foot for a shoe,
And he
has a kiss for his daddy,
And two
for his mammy, I trow.
And why
may not I love Johnny?
And why
may not Johnny love me?
And why
may not I love Johnny
As well
as another body?

There once was a man named Johnny. He
had once been married. He had a divorce, and was ready to get back on the horse,
and find his new honey. Johnny asked a few of his friends if they knew of any
single woman looking for potential relationships. A week went by and Johnny was
informed that there were ten women, who would go on a date with him. He became
so excited that he went out and bought ten different suits, one for each one of
his dates. After two weeks Johnny had gone on all ten dates. He then sat at
home, and began to think of who he would like to ask out on another date. He made
a list describing each woman so he wouldn’t become further confused.
Date 1: Emma is three years older than
me.
Date 2: Tiffany only cares about
materialistic things.
Date 3: Regan is into sports, but smokes
everyday.
Date 4: Sarah can only speak French. (awkward
because
I can’t speak French)
Date 5: Olivia is taller than me, even
without heels.
Date 6: Penny can only talk in acronyms.
Date 7: Julia…She had the best smile,
and continued a
good conversation.
Date 8: Yasmin is still hung over her ex.
(She clearly
tried to make her ex jealous)
Date 9: Victoria was nine years younger
than me.
Date 10: Amanda likes to be in the gym
for 18 hours of
a day.
He then decided that Julia, his seventh
date was the perfect match for him. He believed the date went well, and was
confident he would receive another. Johnny then sent a gift to Julia’s house
that contained a pair of earrings. He wrote a note which said “Here are some
earrings, hope to receive a “ring” from you”. Time flew by, but no call ever
came. He then sat and wondered why she never called. He then called Julia and
asked if she received his gift. Julia told him that she did get the earrings,
but thought Johnny was too corny for her. Johnny questioned if he would ever
love anyone, or if anyone would ever love him.
The End.

Hey Marisha! I loved the twist that you put on this song, and what happened to him at the end was just funny. He had so many choices and in the end the one person he picked rejected him. This just goes to show that you do not always get what you want. They say too many cooks spoil the broth and in his case too many dates spoiled his love life.
ReplyDeleteI really liked how you made the song into something more modern and relatable. This story kind of teaches you a lesson about people. It shows that by simply having the ability to carry a conversation, you can be able to really make a person like you. I, myself, need to work on that for sure. Although he didn’t get the girl in the end, at least he put himself out there and tried and that’s all that really matters.
ReplyDeletePoor Johnny. I feel so bad for him even though maybe going on so many dates near the same time was a bad idea. I liked how you twisted the story so that instead of someone else loving Johnny, it was Johnny loving someone else. Although the song does mention the other person loving another body as well as Johnny loving another body, I still didn't expect the end that you wrote.
