Week 7 Reading : The Mahabharata Karmic Revolution

Reading Notes: The Mahabharata Karmic Revolution

I liked watching these videos compared to reading the stories from text. I understood the stories clearly and I feel that it is easier to remember what has happened, since they also provide pictures, and I am a visual learner.

I really felt an attracted to the story where Devavrat took his Satyavati and promised to never have any children again. I assumed from the first reading that he was granted by his father the right to know when his death would come, but he was actually given the power to choose when his death would be.

I feel that there was a misunderstanding with Bhisma. He tried so hard to keep his father happy, and his step-mother happy. I feel that Amba should only blame Salva as to what happened to her. Salva should have accepted Amba and since he rejected her, she should have been after him and not Bhisma. He even happily let Satyavati’s other son take the throne. Vyas was also I felt treated in a way that was rude.

I understand that the Ambika and Ambalika didn’t want to marry or have children with Vyas, but they went to some extremes. I also feel that Bhisma went to extremes to force it to happen. I want to focus on the fact that the two ladies did accept to become the princesses and eventually the queens of the kingdom when the people of the kingdom accepted them. I want to point out the fact that Ambalika sent a servant in her place when Vyas and her were to have children. I am still confused to the fact Vyas did not realize the switch happened, and the fact that no one realized the son of the servant wasn’t righteous to have the thrown. Also what happened to the servant that had Vidura.
