Week 10 Review

I loved how our teacher posted something of a student's request. I that it is so cool that Megan can reach out to all of in her class in just one simple quick post. I love psychology because it so broad and unique. There is a direct way you can reach someone's thoughts and emotions, and this is why I am interested in participating in Megan's Survey.

Tech Tip Canvas Calendar

I love the Canvas app and the window itself. The upgrade from Learn was great. The calendar has helped me keep up with not jsut school but school related events. I am able to add all my events to the calendar even though there is not a class for them. The color coding for each class is very cool, and I love how it marks out what has been accomplished.

Sita's Story

Sita's Castle

Have you heard of the story behind this acre of land that cost billions of dollars?  It was once the ground that the goddess Sita sat upon. She was the most beautiful princess around and was highly pursued by many. One day, the almighty Rama came across Sita. He knew it was love at first sight and was on the quest to make Sita his wife. Sita did not hesitate to accept his proposal. Rama bought Sita a whole castle; the castle was actually built right on this plot of land.
This is where Sita spent every morning getting ready and most of her free time. She loved her castle. Rama knew if Sita was nowhere to be found she would be in her castle. Often, Rama would come up to the castle and sit outside just watching Sita do her daily activities. He found Sita to be the most beautiful woman he had ever laid eyes on. Seeing that the land is empty currently, it is clear that the castle had been removed. The reason for the demolition of the castle was due to a man named Ravana. Ravana was actually an admirer of Sita. He heard about her from his sister and instantly fell in love with just the thoughts and imagination of her. He wanted Sita to be his wife but was unsure on how to do so. There was a curse placed on Ravana, and he was not allowed to touch any woman unless they were desired by him.
He was determined to make Sita his wife, whether she wanted to be his or not. One morning when Sita was in her castle getting ready for the day to begin, Ravana showed up. He told her he was there to make her his new bride. She tried to explain to him that she was married and had no interest in him. Ravana kept trying to convince her to leave Rama. He told her he would give her all that Rama had to offer and more. He would cherish her forever and she could keep her castle that she loved so dearly. She cried out for her husband, but he had been away buying Sita a new pair of earrings. Ravana couldn’t get Sita to come with him, so he decided to take the whole castle with Sita inside along with him. He flew the castle and Sita to his homeland and told her she was trapped.

She cried and cried and was ready to kill herself. Ravana continued to try and woo Sita, but she could not stop pleading for her release to Rama.
When Rama returned to find the land the castle was on to be torn apart, he was confused. He made the castle purposely on land that was forever protected by his brother Lakshmana. He was to always keep his eyes on the castle especially if Rama was away. He immediately went to Lakshmana and asked him what happened to the castle. He said that Sita had requested that he go find Rama, and was to tell him to hurry home. Rama scolded Lakshmana and blamed Sita’s disappearance on him. Lakshmana felt terrible and promised that he would never let anything happen again to the land because he would always keep an eye on it, and would aid Rama in finding Sita for however long it took.
Months passed by, then years, and Sita was nowhere to be found. Everyone accepted that she must have been kidnapped and killed. Since then this land has been protected and has never been prone to any type of natural destruction. Although the times of Rama and Sita  are way past the time of today, it has been said that anyone who decides to buy this land and build a home on it will receive protection for eternity.

Author's Note: From The Ramayana, Rama had never built a castle for Sita. However, he did leave her for a portion of the day to be protected in the hands of Lakshmana while he went to go hunt a deer. That was when Sita thought her husband was in trouble so she sent Lakshmana to go help Rama. This is when Ravana took her. Since Ravana was in love with Sita and was not allowed to touch her unless she wanted to be his, he took her away on the ground she stood on. I decided to keep to the plot pretty much up to this point. I twisted the next part of the story and made "the ground" into the castle. Sita, however, eventually did return to Rama but he had a hard time accepting her back. However, in this story, Sita is never found and the land, therefore, is forever under Lakshmana's protection. I decided to use this picture because it portrays Ravana in a bad light. From my understanding of the story, he was a figure that was a demon. This picture helps imagine how scared Sita was yet also shows Ravana not laying his hand on her, though he really desired her.

Reading Notes Week 10 Epified: Mahabharata videos, Part F

When first watching the videos I felt sorry for the Pandavas because they lost all that they had, and literally had to strip off their clothes. It is shocking to hear that at one point Draupadi was even unclothed in front of the whole society. Krishna however, provided that her clothes be endless, and this cruel act was stopped. With this much loss and embarrassment, I don’t understand why the Pandavas would go back to place the game of Dice. I feel that it was given they would lose the game. I feel that Krishna is someone who takes everything upon himself. It wasn’t his fault that the Pandavas went to go gamble and lost everything once more. I don’t think Krishna should have blamed himself. I feel that Arjun played a great sense in the moral of working to get what you want. I feel that writing an underdog story of Arjun would suit him well. I feel that for all that Arjun did he deserved to go to Heaven. This could be a great story on if you keep working hard though you may have started from defeat, still can bring great rewards. I can involve Arjun's brother into the story by writing them as Arjun’s friends. Though Arjun’s can make strides and leap in my story he can come back from where he gone to help his friends. I am unsure if I want to include a love story. All my previous stories include this. I want to focus this more on Arjun’s inner strength to keep going, though it would be easier to admit defeat. However, I want to change it to where he isn’t helped by the gods with them giving him weapons. I feel I can still keep to Arjun’s character if I just write about all the knowledge he gains from the gods.

Reading Notes: Pattanaik's Calendar Art: Part E (Vishnu)

Watching Vishnu’s secrets, I learned a lot about nature. How it is very important in the Hindu religion. We are to protect the land, even though us humans destroy it. It reminds me of the real state post I had made. I could write another making it about the earth-cow. Since the earth-cow has such value to it. I could also make it into an auction. I really like the theme of that the world is in a constant flow of perfection to imperfection and back again. I can see how it turns from people who are caring for not just themselves to others who are selfish and greedy.
I am intrigued that Vishnu knew that the rules placed are to be flexible and that with time they can and will change. I was very interested in the story of Manu and the fish. I was confused as to why it ended with the Manu and his world being destroyed. I see that the act of compassion starts society, because in a sense a society is a group of people who have each other’s back. Therefore I don’t understand why when Manu showed compassion he was treated otherwise.

Dnyaneshwant was a character that was very predictable in my opinion. I like how that his parents were very dedicated and were willing to kill themselves for the sake of their children. I don’t fully understand how Dnyaneshwant gained his powers, but I like how he did not become selfish with them.

I love the comparison between Shiva and Vishnu. Vishnu is able to show Arjuna how to being with law will help him avoid adarma. The fact that Shiva will not recognize a goddess is interesting. I want to research more and possible make a love triangle between a goddess, Vishnu, and Krishna.

Radha and Krishna's story

“Did he really just walk into class?”, said Radha.

It was 1:42 p.m. and Biology class was well into cellular division. Krishna, the school’s “bad boy,” had just walked in twelve minutes late. This put an upsetting look on Radha’s face. Radha was the most punctual person at Rosewood High. She never ditched class, nor received anything below a 95% in a class. She hated people who were late, and knowing exactly who Krishna was, she was shocked. Today was the day partners were to be assigned for the end of the year project. Radha was skeptical of who would be her partner since this was the project for which the teacher would assign partners.
Half of the class was assigned and it was Krishna’s turn. The teacher looked around the room. He knew Krishna would never do his work unless someone made him do it. Instantly the teacher knew who to pick. With a huge grin on his face, the teacher said Radha’s name. Radha’s face turned into a frown. She hated Krishna and definitely didn’t want to be his partner. Immediately after class Radha went straight to Krishna and told him what he needed to do for the project. Krishna secretly had a crush on Radha, and to Radha’s surprise, he said okay. Radha expecting Krishna to object had secretly worked on some of Krishna’s part of the project. Every day Radha and Krishna would meet in the library and work on their project. Krishna showed great interest in the project, and would quietly get all his work set for the day accomplished. Radha grew fond of Krishna and didn’t mind being his partner. Her opinion of him changed, and she slowly began waving and smiling at Krishna in the hallways. Tomorrow was the day of their presentation and all Radha and Krishna had left to do was to practice their presentation.
That night Krishna was hanging out with his friends and they were snooping around the high school. One of his friends decided to jump the fence and hit the lock on the door with a hammer. All of a sudden all the alarms went off and the police were on their way. Krishna’s friend already had a record, so he asked Krishna to take the fall. Krishna knew that if he took the fall for the break in, he would go to juvie and not make it his presentation tomorrow. He had a tough decision to make.
The next Radha waited patiently in her desk five minutes before class. She watched the clock intensely as the second hand moved. The were was 30 seconds left till the bell was to ring. The bell rang, and Krishna was nowhere to be seen. Radha was confused. Krishna had told her that he would be there, and he even put in more than a hundred percent of effort into the project.
Radha had a feeling that something had to have happened for Krishna not to show up. She was mad at Krishna but secretly was worried for him. She knew that if he didn’t make it, he would fail the class. She decided to do the project on her own. The next day Krishna explained everything to her, and Radha was glad that he wanted to be there for her, but couldn’t make it.

Authors Note:

For this story I chose to keep to the major ideas, while changing how they all happened. In this story the beginning is different from the original tale, but it ends similar. I decided to focus on the part where Krishna was in the forest and when he played the flute all the ladies were charmed by him. Though in this story he was the bad boy, all the girls secretly wanted him. However, this is not explicitly stated in the story. In the tale there were multiple ladies (Gopis) that were interested in him. He would play the flute in the forest and in a way serenade the woman. I switched the part where Radha was originally in love with him to hating him. She then falls in love with him, just like the original story. Krishna then gets in trouble and Radha saves him. In the original tale Krishna does not necessarily get into trouble, but does need the aid of a woman. This is to resemble how Radha decided to pour water down her feet and give it to Krishna to make him better again. Krishna in the end is not the bad guy Radha put him out to be. At the end of the story Krishna gets a chance to explain himself which allows Radha to forgive him and put a happy ending to the story. In the actual tale it is evident that Krishna really loved Radha, however in the end they were not able to be together.

Reading Notes week 9 Krishna

The story of Krishna’s birth and childhood had many twists in within itself. I found many ironic events occur. How the king was scared to be killed by by a baby, and just as when the eight child was a girl, he laughed because it was a girl. I was curious though as to how he knew where to send the demons when they were on the hunt to kill Krishna, or since they were demons they knew where to find him. Yashoda I feel was both a good and bad mother. I feel that for all the troubles Krishna caused growing up, he should have received greater force in punishment. There were so many characters I am unsure who I should focus on. Krishna seemed to be to be a bad boy who everyone hated at first. I feel like I could easily write a story of a troubled boy who committed small crimes of theft from shops to represent him. Then he could save someone’s life, which can cause people to feel safer with him there. This can be the people constantly running to Krishna for protection. I also am interested in making Krishna  a child in high school. Where he is the bad boy all the girls want. He can pull pranks on all the teachers which can represent his childhood, and that can cause him to become placed in detention. He can secretly have his eyes on the girl in school that was the perfect child. She always followed the rules and never forgot to do her homework. One day Krishna can play a prank that causes Radha to get into trouble with him, that way they both get detention. With this Krishna can charm Radha, and Radha secretly can fall in love with Krishna. I’m still unaware what prank.
